Baker Days Cake Review

I’m going to let you in on a little secret, I have a massive sweet tooth, there I said it. I can’t help but crave the sugary, sponge of a cake or gobble up a whole packet of Galaxy minstrels in one sitting.  As a kid, I was always the one at the party, covered in chocolate from head to toe and my little munchkin Phoebe is most definitely following in my footsteps with her love of cake.

Me as a little girl enjoying my birthday cake

Her first birthday cake went down rather well and now being 2 and half she’s realised that birthday parties = cake and gets extremely excited when I tell her we’re off to a party, she dances around whilst shouting party and cake on repeat. It’s fair to say we are both proud cake lovers so when we were kindly offered the opportunity from Baker Days to review one of there personalised cakes, that arrives through your letter box we jumped at the chance. I was firstly intrigued by the idea of a cake arriving through my letterbox and secondly I couldn’t wait to get designing.

Ordering

So many to choose from

The website is really user friendly, making it quick and easy to order your cake. They have a step by step guide to follow, so you can’t go wrong. You start by choosing a category, thankfully they have thought of literally every occasion you could imagine, which you can then personalise or you can choose a Photo cake, which is what we did.

It’s very easy to upload your image and once uploaded you add any text. Next you pick your size, which starts from the “letterbox gift cake” 3-4 portions 5 inch cakes (12cm x 2.5cm) right up to a “Large Cake & Free helium ballon” 40-55 portions 12 inch ( 30 cm x 7.5 cm) and then of course the flavour. Bakerdays even caters for food intolerances and for a small additional cost you can order a Gluten Wheat free cake and even a dairy free one.

The last page is the delivery, confirmation and payment information,  where you can amend your order if you notice any mistake. Another nice feature they offer, is if you order multiple cakes you can have them delivered to different addresses. Overall the whole ordering experience was hassle free and the only bit I struggled with, was actually choosing a design from all the fabulous options available.

Delivery

The delivery was fast and our cake arrived well under the 10 days they had given. I was a little disappointed I didn’t see the cake come shooting through our letterbox as I had pictured it in my head, I was in fact putting out the recycling, when our postman came to deliver it so I got it hand delivered instead. The postie also made a comment that it smelt like a cake, with a shocked look on his face.

The box it arrived in was sturdy and defiantly secure. Inside the box, the cake was presented in a gorgeous tin. The cake was in a air tight bag and attached to it was a large tab with easy instructions on how to remove the cake correctly.

The box also came with some extra goodies which included;

  • 3 x Ballons
  • 1 x Party streamer
  • 2 x Candles
  • A lovely card

Cake

The cake design was bright, colourful and exactly like I had ordered. The photo I uploaded looked great, even on the small letterbox cake. Very impressive for a photo cake.

Our cake was a classic vanilla sponge with a buttercream frosting, topped with a tasty thick white icing. The cake was light, moist and yummy despite the travelling and they definitely keep their promise of ” We absolutely guarantee it will arrive fresh, safely and on time. Every one of our cakes will taste like you made it yourself!”. I was a little unsure about the icing at first as I normally don’t eat it, however it wasn’t too sweet plus it complimented the cake really well.

I cut the cake into small slices so me and Phoebe could have our own little tea party, but it would happily feed 2-3 Adults. There was not a crumb left on either of our plates and mummy had to tell a little fib to Phoebe and say we had eaten it all to stop her shouting for cake. Luckily the free balloons and party streamer entertained her whilst I took a few more photos and shoved another slice into my mouth.

For £14.99 it’s a great unique gift for any occasion, fun and you can be as creative as you like, or go for a pre designed cake. The option is all yours. 3. @Baker days – very bad experiance. i am in India and my husband is in London for his office project. i booked a cake on baker days website 4 days in advance still they charged me 5 pounds for delivery and i paid that too but the CAKE WAS NOT DELIVERED. i was so upset, my small child has selected the cake for his Dad but the cake did not reach. a perfect birthday was ruined and we were all completely in stress and embarassment. i dont know if i will get the refund also or not but i wish i had paid more and ordered in any indian website…….will never order from baker days – pathetic experiance
